Biography

Jeffrey specializes in treating soft tissue strains resulting from sports, general injuries, or poor posture. He uses deep tissue, trigger point, stretching, positional release, and gentle massage in his sessions. His current training is preparing him to offer Structural Integration bodywork, an advanced approach to reversing long-term effects of injury and trauma. Jeffrey McLeod entered the massage world on an interesting path. He has been an engineer, a teacher, and a manager in restaurant and retail settings. This varied past has made him a calm quiet listener — many people start feeling better just talking with him. Jeffrey’s sessions are driven by a combination of both science and intuition.

Although he can see the body as a structural machine, he also understands that many patterns of tension come from emotional or postural sources. By identifying and treating these areas, the client finds more ease in their bodies and in their lives. Although he excels at “going deep,” Jeffrey also acknowledges the power of a good relaxation massage. After graduating from Cortiva Institute in Watertown MA with a 4.0 GPA, Jeffrey was immediately asked to be a Teaching Assistant and still enjoys that role today. He is trained in Swedish, Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular Release, Sports Massage and, Myofascial Release.

“It can be a hard path that we all must walk. I see it as my job to soften tissue and increase mobility so that each client can travel that path a little lighter and with more ease. I see myself as a teammate for that journey.”

Services Offered

Services Offered:

Deep Tissue Massage

Quite different from “a Therapeutic Massage with Extra Pressure,” our Deep Tissue Massage focuses on releasing muscle restrictions (adhesions) and re-balancing structural tension (holding patterns) running through the several layers of soft tissue (muscle). Deep Tissue Massage requires a much slower pace than our Therapeutic Massage and more than one session is usually necessary for better results and/or resolution. Very effective if you have strained a muscle resulting in limited (and possibly painful) movement.

IMPORTANT: While it is not unusual for some people to experience bruising and pain for several days following treatment it does not happen to everyone. Soon the pain will decrease and you will begin to experience a range of movement you haven’t had for a very long while. Eventually, that every-day pain thing will be just a distant memory.

PLEASE NOTE: 30-MINUTES WILL ONLY ALLOW ENOUGH TIME TO WORK ON ONE REGION OF THE BODY (muscles of your thigh, calf, forearms or hands, etc.). One hour is highly recommended for your first session.

Integrative Bodywork

AN ACUTE INJURY USUALLY OCCURS WHEN WE’VE PUSHED OUR MUSCLES BEYOND THEIR NORMAL RANGE-OF-MOTION OFTEN RESULTING IN PAIN.

Integrative Bodywork combines several healing bodywork modalities with therapeutic massage. Some of those modalities might include: CranioSacral therapy, Trigger Point therapy, Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue, Positional Release, Neuromuscular Facilitation, Reiki, and acupressure. Very effective in treating some chronic pain issues such as sciatica, acute injuries such as whiplash, sports-related injuries, carpal tunnel and other repetitive stress injuries (RSIs), plus physical traumas such as accidents involving falling-down, bicycling, and automobiles.

1-hour usually gives the therapist enough time to focus on those areas of the body associated with the pain or injury. Several treatments are often necessary to understand and resolve the issue(s).

Oncology Massage

People in all phases of the journey through cancer can benefit from healing touch and carefully tailored massage therapy. Oncology Massage can help manage symptoms and side effects of cancer and cancer treatment, including pain, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety and depression. Most of all, oncology massage is a nurturing experience designed to restore your sense of positive touch and an integrated body which helps encourage your body’s healing process.

MTW’s style of Oncology Massage incorporates gentle strokes, energy work and guided meditation to encourage deep relaxation of the body, mind and spirit. The mental and emotional stresses of dealing with cancer can begin with diagnosis, wax and wane throughout treatment, and sometimes linger even after a full recovery. Massage is a way of taking time out to care for your whole self during this often grueling, always individual process.

There are only a few instances where touch is contraindicated for a cancer patient, but your therapist will work with you and your doctor to learn exactly what is the right level of massage for you at any point during your treatment and recovery.

Sports Massage

If you’re a runner, we are going to concentrate on your legs; if you’re a swimmer, we will spend more time on your upper body and hips; a cyclist, your hip flexors, quads, ITB, calves and upper trapezius will likely be targeted.

A sports massage therapist may use their forearm or the palm of their hand to bear down on the muscles in your legs and back to separate and relax them and their fingers to put direct pressure on a muscle in spasm, which can be painful but will reduce your pain later. Along with massage we’ll combine deep tissue massage and stretching when necessary to help maximize your muscles’ potential.

PLEASE NOTE: A 1-hour session is recommended for your initial session/evaluation.

This is the kind you’re most likely to encounter at a spa. Stress-reduction massage can also induce a state of mind called the Relaxation Response, which has been shown to minimize the effects of stress and boost your immune system. When you’re feeling overwhelmed and even simple movement is stiff, our Stress-reduction Massage is likely to bring you immediate relief.

Testimonials

Jeffrey released about 12 years of tension with integrated deep tissue massage. I honestly hadn’t felt this calm and relaxed in my entire life.—Stephanie N. (Cambridge)

I’ve been back a few times now and see Jeffrey. He has been very helpful to me, mentally and physically—as well as emotionally. I feel so relaxed and better almost seconds into settling in on the table.—Melissa M. (Medford)

On my morning run my Achilles hurt so much I actually had to stop and walk. I did the sports massage. Jeffrey showed me how to do some stretches and then massaged out my legs, back, and shoulders (“always the shoulders when I know the person is a student.”). He even showed me how to do the stretches on my own even though we did them as partners. He explained to me why my sitting job and my active lifestyle aren’t meshing so well. The sitting makes my muscles contract in a way that the active life style doesn’t particularly like. So the stretches will help me to alleviate the tension on my own.—Mahina K. (Boston)

I had a great experience in a 2-hour massage with Jeffery Mcleod. He was very knowledgeable, professional and personable. I went in looking for general muscle release of my lower body from sports. Jeffrey spent about 10 minutes stretching my legs before the massage. He was very conscientious during the massage about certain areas that could be tender and checking if the pressure was appropriate.

The location is great in the center of David Square and the office and massage space is clean professional. I spoke with two different people to schedule and check-in and both were very well organized and made the process painless.

I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality massage in a professional setting.—Brandon N. (Woburn)
